Prepainted coil goes into rolling shutters, roofing, cladding, gutters, and signage. In North American gutter, roofing, and fascia work, the same product is sold as trim coil.
How prepainted coil is made
Prepainted, or pre-coated, coil is produced on a continuous coil-coating line, a fundamentally different and more consistent process than spraying or powder-coating finished parts. The strip is unwound and runs continuously through cleaning and pretreatment, a chemical conversion coating for adhesion and corrosion protection, a primer coat, then one or more topcoats, each cured in line before the coil is rewound.
Because paint is applied to flat strip under controlled tension, temperature and film thickness, coil coating delivers far more uniform film build and color consistency than post-forming finishing, and the coil can then be formed, since quality coatings are engineered to bend with the metal. This is why it is specified for high-volume manufacturing: the finish is consistent across the whole coil and from batch to batch, and the manufacturer skips a finishing step entirely.
What defines a coated-coil spec
A complete coated-coil specification answers several questions at once. Use this as a checklist when preparing an RFQ.
- Substrate and alloy: aluminum (or steel), and the alloy series suited to forming and end use.
- Gauge and width: thickness and coil width, within Orbit's coated range of up to 1.60 mm thick and 1350 mm wide.
- Coating system: the resin family (PE, HDPE, PVDF, PUPA and others), chosen by environment, see coating systems.
- Color and finish: any RAL or custom color; solid, metallic, woodgrain, brushed, matte/gloss or textured.

Is prepainted aluminum coil the same as aluminum trim coil?
Yes. In North America, prepainted, color-coated aluminum coil for gutters, fascia, roofing and trim is commonly called aluminum trim coil. Orbit supplies it in any RAL or custom color, in the gauges and widths listed.
What colors can Orbit match?
Orbit matches any RAL color or a custom reference. Provide a sample and the match is confirmed at quote stage.
What's the minimum order per color?
The minimum is typically 6 MT per color, and 3 MT may be possible as part of a larger order.
