When steel, when aluminum?
The substrate choice usually comes down to strength, weight, corrosion behavior and cost.
- Aluminum does not rust, is roughly a third the weight of steel, and forms easily, favored for roofing, gutters, facades and transportation where weight and corrosion resistance matter.
- Coated steel offers higher stiffness and strength per unit thickness at typically lower material cost, and with a proper coating and pretreatment performs well in many construction uses, favored where rigidity and cost lead the decision.

Is prepainted steel coil the same as PPGI?
PPGI (pre-painted galvanized iron) is the common market name for prepainted steel coil on a galvanized substrate. Orbit color-coats steel coil with the same PE, HDPE, PVDF and PUPA systems used for aluminum; share your substrate and gauge in an RFQ.
Does Orbit coat steel as well as aluminum?
